Book Giveaway Winners!
Posted by Jacques - January 19, 2009
First of all, I want to thank everyone who took to the time to explain their inspiration. Some of you went above and beyond the call of duty and I wish I could give you all free books. I’m going to make this short and sweet. I was only going to give away one copy of each book but after reading some of the entries, I wanted to buy one more copy of The Power of Less. Here are the winners of The Power of Less, The Money Book, and The 4 Hour Work Week Giveaway. Also, I want to thank Leo Babauta taking the time to congratulate the winners of his book. You can find his latest post here.

Slacker Method for a Successful New Year’s Resolution
Posted by Jacques - December 31, 2008The easiest method for actually accomplishing your New Year’s resolution is to make it achievable. No, that doesn’t mean we dumb it down to, “I will exercise once in 2009″ but we don’t expect everyone to, “complete an Iron Man race.” Rather, we should understand that resolutions aren’t meant to impress anyone, they serve to remind us that
each year we can continually improve ourselves. I would go with, “Exercise at least twice a week for 30 minutes.”
Something that I remembered from my school years is that in order to set a good goal, it has to be a SMART goal. Specific, Measurable, Attainable (but not too attainable), Realistic, and Time Bound. At the same time, it has to challenge you to improve in some way. Creating a goal that you can accomplish right away, or is something that you already do is quite pointless. About Me
Posted by Jacques - November 30, 2008There are two seemingly very different people I know in my life.
One of them is a successful entrepreneur with several businesses and employees. In the past year or so he has gotten married, ran for a board position and lost, ran for another board position and won, started a contract job for banking systems consulting, started cycling 10 miles to work, all the while attending night school for accounting. He purchased a home in his early twenties all on his own, and drives a luxury sedan.
The other person is a stark contrast. He’s constantly on the computer or watching television. He’s still going to school but he never goes to class. He does whatever he wants, with no belief in hard work. He has fun all day long and his wife is always complaining about his shennanigans and schemes. The problem is that this person has all the things that the first person has without any effort. In fact they are the same person, and that person is me.
Somewhere along the way I learned that being a slacker and having success in life are not mutually exclusive. People have this belief that successful individuals are made that way through luck or through mind numbing intense labor and struggle. I’m a believer that we can have everything we want without any huge effort and that regardless of what others say, slackers “deserve” it just as much as them.
Slacker Method for Trimming Your Commute.
Posted by Jacques - November 25, 2008How many times have you asked yourself what the extra 10 minutes to study, 10 minutes to prepare for that interview would’ve cost you. Slackers usually don’t like to waste time on the road, we’d rather waste it at home or with friends. So, if there’s a place you commute to on a daily basis it’s likely that your typical route isn’t always the most efficient. For example, I personally had a commute that I brought down from 30 minutes to 20 minutes by trying 10 different routes. Some of the routes shared part of the same road, but from point A to B there were 10 different ones.
