Posted by Jacques - January 19, 2009
First of all, I want to thank everyone who took to the time to explain their inspiration. Some of you went above and beyond the call of duty and I wish I could give you all free books. I’m going to make this short and sweet. I was only going to give away one copy of each book but after reading some of the entries, I wanted to buy one more copy of The Power of Less. Here are the winners of The Power of Less, The Money Book, and The 4 Hour Work Week Giveaway. Also, I want to thank Leo Babauta taking the time to congratulate the winners of his book. You can find his latest post here.

Slacker Method for Completing Your First Triathlon: Part 2

Continued from Slacker Method for Completing Your First Triathlon: Part 1
Here’s what I think about the excuses.
-
I hate training and don’t have enough time to do it.
Then don’t train. Have fun doing some of the physical activities you love! I’m going to be going to the beach to toughen my feet, get used to open water, and karaoke to expand my lung capacity.
-
Tri-athlons are too difficult.
The Tri-athlon I’m doing is a sprint distance. It’s 400 yard swim, 9 mile bike, and 2 mile run. 400 yards is about 5 laps in a junior Olympic size pool. The bike portion can be done on a beach cruiser if you really want to, and the running portion can be walked. Difficulty is not an excuse.
-
I’m too old or unhealthy.
B.S. Look at the lady from Part 1. Go check out a triathlon in progress and look at the people in the middle of the pack, they’re all shapes, sizes, and age levels. There’s probably senior citizens out there that you will never come close to their time. Continue reading Slacker Method for Completing Your First Triathlon: Part 2…
Slacker Method for Cooking Better Food
Posted by Jacques - January 6, 2009
I love cooking, but I hate cooking. It’s taken me years to figure out little tips that turn mushy bland food, into texturized flavorful goodness. If you think about the things that you enjoy eating like those juicy BBQ Ribs or those crunchy fries, it’s always a combination of flavor, texture, and balance. Turns out there are just a few very easy tricks I’ve learned that can often give you surprising results if you haven’t used them before.Continue reading Slacker Method for Cooking Better Food…
Slacker Method for a Successful New Year’s Resolution
Posted by Jacques - December 31, 2008
The easiest method for actually accomplishing your New Year’s resolution is to make it achievable. No, that doesn’t mean we dumb it down to, “I will exercise once in 2009″ but we don’t expect everyone to, “complete an Iron Man race.” Rather, we should understand that resolutions aren’t meant to impress anyone, they serve to remind us that
each year we can continually improve ourselves. I would go with, “Exercise at least twice a week for 30 minutes.”Something that I remembered from my school years is that in order to set a good goal, it has to be a SMART goal. Specific, Measurable, Attainable (but not too attainable), Realistic, and Time Bound. At the same time, it has to challenge you to improve in some way. Creating a goal that you can accomplish right away, or is something that you already do is quite pointless. Continue reading Slacker Method for a Successful New Year’s Resolution…

Posted by Jacques - December 22, 2008
I’ve been doing a lot of posts lately regarding the Holidays, but I can’t help it! The holidays bring a lot of emotions, and much of those emotions involve stress, time, and money. While we all look forward to meeting with friends and family, nobody, not even slackers, look forward to the hectic nature of the season. One of the things I know slackers WANT to do but often can’t do, is sit down and write cards to everyone they love and care about, or maybe even give them a call. But there may be many reasons we can’t, people we haven’t spoken to a long time which may be awkward, or simply not having the time to reach out to everyone that we want to.

Posted by Jacques - December 18, 2008
Since Christmas is almost here, I thought I’d share a tip about how to budget for friends and family using an extremely simple math strategy. Often near the Holidays, we want to keep to a budget but it tends to creep upwards more often than not. Especially in these economic times, it is tougher than ever to break our budgets and give just a little bit more to loved ones. Taking an emotional problem and applying a partially objective solution definitely will ease the anxiety and decision making process when it comes down to a simple method of crunching the numbers.
Step 1: Grade
To start this, take a napkin or paper towel (slacker’s don’t use real paper) and write down the names of everyone who you plan giving a gift to. Then, give them a score between 1 and 10 of how important they are to you (If it’s 0, then why are you even bothering?).For example, my list would look something like this:
- Wife - 10
- Mom - 9
- Best Friend - 7
- Coworker - 5

Time is Important to Slackers too.
Posted by Jacques - November 29, 2008
A couple days ago, I wrote a post about procrastination and what it really means. While I don’t take back anything that I’ve said, I want to make sure that everyone understands the importance and value of time. Afterall, if time wasn’t a factor, procrastination would be a little difficult to define, don’t you think?
Time is ticking and moving forward whether we like it or not. Although being slackers, we often want to spend our time in a way that feels comfortable to us, we need to make sure we are commanding our time. What I mean is, we have to be sure that we are in control of our time. The only way that we can do that, is to ensure that our time works for us. One of the ways we do that, is by recognizing that there are some more “productive” things we can do with our time. Although, “relaxing”, “vegging out”, and “catching up on myspace or facebook” are wonderful things that we want to do with our time, they’re the kind of thing you can do at any time and don’t really have a limit.
