Earn Slacker Money With Bottled Water
Posted by Jacques - May 9, 2009
Every Saturday is money day here at The Slacker Method, and this time, I’m putting my money where my mouth is by working my own idea.
You see, remembering to bring bottled water with you saves you one dollar. Remembering that a hundred people will forget to bring water to the community garage sale this weekend, will save you one hundred dollars.
My good friend Lily @ purechocolateliving.com reminded me of this good fact as I prepared to sell many of my unneeded trinkets and gadgets (by the way, the chocolate stuff is fantastic!).
So without hesitation I thought of us slackers, needing another way to make money without actually doing anything at all. I bought some water at a wholesale club about $10 for 70 bottles, and then marked them for sale @ one dollar each. I nearly sold out after selling water for only a couple hours. It’s certainly a healthy alternative to selling your body fluids.
Here’s a few things I learned about this method of making cash:

Slacker Method for Sounding Smart (Please Don’t Use Big Words)
Posted by Jacques - February 5, 2009
I do not consider myself to be smart. People like Tim Ferris, Warren Buffet, and Leonardo Da Vinci are the truly smart people. I’m content just appearing to be smart (relative to others).
Sounding smart is an important skill to have nowadays. While this isn’t something you can master in a day, there’s definitely a few shortcuts you can take short of actually knowing everything. Pretending to be smart, as it turns out, is a lot easier than actually being smart.
Sounding smart is useful because it means people will listen to you, you’ll get promotions, you’ll get your way, and you won’t be ridiculed. I know you’re going to roll your eyes at some of these so called “tips” but I promise you, if you can employ all of the strategies I list here, people will perceive you to be at least one standard deviation above the average intelligence (see what I did there?!). These can be used at work, or when having conversations with friends or potential business partners.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who took to the time to explain their inspiration. Some of you went above and beyond the call of duty and I wish I could give you all free books. Here are the winners of The Power of Less, The Money Book, and The 4 Hour Work Week Giveaway. Also, I want to thank Leo Babauta taking the time to congratulate the winners of his book. Slacker Method for Completing Your First Triathlon: Part 2

Continued from Slacker Method for Completing Your First Triathlon: Part 1
Here’s what I think about the excuses.
-
I hate training and don’t have enough time to do it.
Then don’t train. Have fun doing some of the physical activities you love! I’m going to be going to the beach to toughen my feet, get used to open water, and karaoke to expand my lung capacity.
-
Tri-athlons are too difficult.
The Tri-athlon I’m doing is a sprint distance. It’s 400 yard swim, 9 mile bike, and 2 mile run. 400 yards is about 5 laps in a junior Olympic size pool. The bike portion can be done on a beach cruiser if you really want to, and the running portion can be walked. Difficulty is not an excuse.
-
I’m too old or unhealthy.
B.S. Look at the lady from Part 1. Go check out a triathlon in progress and look at the people in the middle of the pack, they’re all shapes, sizes, and age levels. There’s probably senior citizens out there that you will never come close to their time. Continue reading Slacker Method for Completing Your First Triathlon: Part 2…
Slacker Method for Completing Your First Triathlon: Part 1

First of all Triathlons are never going to be “easy.” And if you’re an experienced Triathlete then I wouldn’t bother reading this. But for those of you who have thought year after year that you were going to complete one and didn’t then this is something you should read. You can do it. I know you can. I’m going to set out to prove that an average person can complete a Triathlon and wipe away all the excuses that people have through this series. In fact, I’m not going to do any traditional Tri training. I’m going to read, learn some theory, go to the beach, sing some karaoke, and bike to work. That’s my training and people like 88 year old Mary Stroebe to the right are my inspiration.
Last weekend, I ran a test Tri-athlon. Granted, I didn’t go at the same pace that I would in a real race, but I got a feeling for the distance, and boosted my confidence by completing it.
What about the excuses? Well here they are, and I’m going to have a think about it and come back to explain how they be overcome.
- I don’t have enough time to train.
- Tri-athlons are too difficult.
- I’m too old or unhealthy.
- I don’t know anything about them.
- I suck at running/swimming/cycling.
- I can’t afford the equipment.
- I’m going to finish in the back.
Slacker Interviews Lazy Man
Posted by Jacques - January 8, 2009

One of the blogs that I watch a lot is Lazy Man and Money (our logos look eerily similar). The concept is really cool, if you’re lazy but want to respect your money and time, then there are some basic concepts you should learn.
Lazy Man, thank you for agreeing to do this interview. One of the things I have to ask is if you think being “lazy” is good or bad, or just the way some people are?
I think you have to take the good with the bad when it comes to laziness. I often miss out on opportunities because I’m lazy. The other day I missed a deadline on a Black Friday rebate and I’m kicking myself for it. Lazy Man and Money isn’t about that kind of laziness. It’s about working smarter instead of working harder. It’s realizing that saving and investing today can put you in a position to not have to work tomorrow. I go into a little more detail on my About page.

The easiest method for actually accomplishing your New Year’s resolution is to make it achievable. No, that doesn’t mean we dumb it down to, “I will exercise once in 2009″ but we don’t expect everyone to, “complete an Iron Man race.” Rather, we should understand that resolutions aren’t meant to impress anyone, they serve to remind us that
each year we can continually improve ourselves. I would go with, “Exercise at least twice a week for 30 minutes.”Something that I remembered from my school years is that in order to set a good goal, it has to be a SMART goal. Specific, Measurable, Attainable (but not too attainable), Realistic, and Time Bound. At the same time, it has to challenge you to improve in some way. Creating a goal that you can accomplish right away, or is something that you already do is quite pointless. Continue reading Slacker Method for a Successful New Year’s Resolution…

Unfortunately, this slacker has not found a magic pill. Luckily, there is a magic formula! Calories Consumed - Calories Burned = Weight Loss/Gain. Yep, I’m sorry, that’s it, but at least it’s a simple formula. We can attack this problem one of two ways, either by lowering the consumption side or increasing the calories burned side. If we’re smart, then we’ll do a little of both without having to do any significant work.Continue reading Slacker Method for Losing Weight by Swapping Foods…
