Buy and Sell Domains Online with Slacker Business
Posted by Jacques - July 6, 2009
What’s easier than making money on your couch with your laptop while watching your favorite tv show? Domaining is the business of buying and selling domain property, in other words, it’s about making money off of selling .com names. This business is very simple and I know from experience that it can be somewhat lucrative if you are careful with your choices. I’ve recently sold a domain for $300 that I purchased for $8. All I had to do was register the domain name but there are other ways to increase your profit margin.

Online Slacker Income Through Monkey Jar!
Posted by Jacques - June 13, 2009
We all know that online businesses have the greatest potential for slacker glory. Setup a website just right and the internet will throw money at you, right? Wrong! I’ve participated in many online businesses that have actually generated losses, usually due to advertising costs. This is why I have not recommended them as a source of slacker income in the past. However, when you have right combination of elements and opportunity, some online businesses will work. Once that happens, there’s no limit to how much goofing off you can do while your business generates cash.
Monkey Jar is the best of the online affiliate programs to date. It essentially is a huge affiliate consolidation program into one affiliate revenue source. Just add the stores you want in your “mall” and voila, you can make money shopping at the places you already shop at, such as Itunes, Amazon, StubHub, etc. The key to this is you invite your friends to open their own personal mall with whatever stores they already shop at. You get a piece of their sales as well, and if they invite members, you get theirs too.
I normally do not participate in affiliate programs as they usually benefit the company selling the product than the affiliate. However, one of the things I’ve learned is that the most successful affiliate programs have some kind of an edge that attracts explosive growth, and combined with a multiple level commission structure it is hard for me to ignore. Plus, MonkeyJar is new, which is the best time to get into an affiliate program.

Slackers Get Easy Cash From Banks
Posted by Jacques - May 23, 2009
While I’m extremely vocal about living cheaper and automated savings as a means of preserving slacker financial security, these are often long-term investments that tend to give minor returns in short-term. The highest savings rate I’ve ever seen was 5.00% at Capital One, and the standard mutual fund will return about 10% over time per year.
I’ve discovered that with a little research, you can take a portion of your money and earn about 100% or 200% returns over a year simply by evaluating banks you don’t already have an account at. This has been done for some time now, but if you work at it, you can make some serious returns. I recently put $100 into one national bank and got $100 bonus after 3 months. Some regional banks will match your money instantly, and at one regional bank, I opened a free checking account with no deposit, and got $50 no strings attached!
I do not condone purely entering into these promotions for personal gain, you should at least evaluate the bank for its products and services during this trial period.
Here are some notes I’ve compiled about this method:

Earn Slacker Money With Bottled Water
Posted by Jacques - May 9, 2009
Every Saturday is money day here at The Slacker Method, and this time, I’m putting my money where my mouth is by working my own idea.
You see, remembering to bring bottled water with you saves you one dollar. Remembering that a hundred people will forget to bring water to the community garage sale this weekend, will save you one hundred dollars.
My good friend Lily @ purechocolateliving.com reminded me of this good fact as I prepared to sell many of my unneeded trinkets and gadgets (by the way, the chocolate stuff is fantastic!).
So without hesitation I thought of us slackers, needing another way to make money without actually doing anything at all. I bought some water at a wholesale club about $10 for 70 bottles, and then marked them for sale @ one dollar each. I nearly sold out after selling water for only a couple hours. It’s certainly a healthy alternative to selling your body fluids.
Here’s a few things I learned about this method of making cash:

Quick Easy Cash for Your Plasma
Posted by Jacques - May 2, 2009
We’re going to start a new tradition here at The Slacker Method due to the economic conditions. Every Saturday, I will provide you a new scheme to make money. We’ll call them Scheming Saturdays. These schemes will be tailored to slackers. They’ll also be quick to utilize, meaning, you might be able to use it tonight if you really wanted to.
Today is about plasma. Some of you may already know this, but it’s really one of the easiest and most effective ways to earn some spending cash quickly. Donating your blood is generally free but selling the plasma within your blood can be relatively lucrative.
Donating your plasma can easily earn you an extra $270/week for about 8 hours of work. Not a bad price to pay. In addition, there are really no educational or physical requirements other than to be healthy and they feed the blood back into you, so you usually won’t feel weak or sick. Plasma is accepted from all blood types. There are special cases where you can earn 4-5 x’s more if you have a rare condition that is beneficial to the plasma collection center. Here are the steps to get you started:

10 Cheap Ways for Having Fun and Wasting Time
Posted by Jacques - March 1, 2009
Having fun on the cheap is a handy tool in the slacker methodology. Making money can be a pain, so a way of avoiding that need is to generate less demand. After all, spending less is much easier than working two jobs. If you can spend extremely little, then you may only need to work every other year and live off the savings.
1. Sign up for free sweepstakes.
Nothing is more satisfying than winning something for doing nothing. Blogs seem to be among the best odds, as little known blogs will try to generate traffic through these methods but the competition isn’t nearly as steep as the local lottery. Do enough of these and you will win something. Guaranteed.
2. Pick up a hobby that pays you back.
When I first started web design, it was a hobby. I just enjoyed making websites and little flaming graphics (HOT DEALS!). Now, it is a strong business that brings in serious dough. You don’t need to be nearly as ambitious though. Starting a garden can save money (FYI, Tomatoes have the best ROI), and buying something at garage sales, fixing it up, and selling it on craigslist also seems to be a good way to go.

The Slacker Method for Building a Nest Egg
Posted by Jacques - January 31, 2009
Saving money for the future can be a tough thing. Especially if most of our energies are focused on the present. If the world stopped tomorrow, would you think to yourself, gee, I wish I had spent more time on my budget?
While I certainly don’t condone forgoing financial planning, it can easily become an obsession. For me, I want to create it once, and then revisit it annually. In between those times, I want nothing to do with it.
Another problem with building nest eggs is that people tend to overdo it. While I agree more people need to save more than save less, we have to be careful to not let it affect our lives. Afterall, money is a symbol of time and power. We want to use it to our advantage, to make our lives and the lives of others meaningful and enjoyable. Too often people become slaves to their 401ks and IRAs without realizing how much of their lives they have sacrificed in order to retire. But what is retirement really? That’s another article.
Here are some easy tips for building your future.

Life Changing Authors Meet and Free Book Giveaway
Posted by Jacques - January 16, 2009

1/19/09 The winners have been announced.
This month, two authors that have had the greatest influence on my life met together and discussed their basic philosophies. It is a pleasure and a treat for me to be able to witness them interact with each other as I have learned so much from both of them. Earlier in January, Tim Ferris author of The Four Hour Work Week blog interviewed Leo, and then just yesterday, Leo interviewed Tim Ferris and posted the audio on his blog Zen Habits. Again, this was a treat for me, and I was excited to see them recognize each other for their great contributions. Leo for showing us how wonderful it is to live our lives simply, and Tim for how much we can accomplish if we focus and streamline.
Today, I am offering their books, The Power of Less (Hardcover) by Leo Babauta and The 4 Hour Work Week (Hardcover) by Tim Ferris. Also another author that has inspired me to do more with my money is Suze Orman. I will be giving away her book too, The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke. These books will absolutely change your life.

Slacker Method for Easy Holiday Gift Tags
Posted by Jacques - December 20, 2008
Seems like every Christmas I go out and spend money on wrapping paper, bows, and the like, but I always seem to run out of gift tags. I often waste a lot of time hunting down tags or going out and buying more. However, over the years, I’ve learned that people don’t really care about the wrapping all that much or even the name tag. What matters is that you thought of them, and that you took the time to give them something you think they’d enjoy. Well, the gift matters too, but the point is, not the tags.
