Convincing Yourself to be Productive Every Day
Posted by Jacques - May 13, 2009
Slackers tend to have this kind of disease that is both a blessing and a curse. We try to live life to its maximum enjoyment but it is often self defeating. People to this day have no idea of the kind of struggle it is for me to get up and do something. I know I have to be productive, but I often never take even the first step towards it.
Procrastination and laziness are my sworn enemies.
Here are the steps that get me mentally prepped for completing tasks.

How to Procrastinate Effectively
Posted by Jacques - March 13, 2009
Sorry guys I know I haven’t written a post in a while, but it was part of my plan to write this post *wink*. Actually, procrastination is a topic close to my heart. It’s one of the slacker techniques we use to be productive and effective. Huh? Effective you say? Yes, it’s true.
Slackers are lazy people, we don’t like to expend energy and time. If a task can be done later, why do it today? Often times you will find that many of these important tasks can put off and some of them can be delayed indefinitely. But there’s a key to successful slacking. That key is found in the margin of error between being that guy who pulled off that amazing project in one night and managing to do more than everyone else, or that other guy who is always late, missing deadlines, and no longer works for the company.
Here are the key points to procrastinating effectively:

9 Ideas for Living Portable and Disaster Proof
Posted by Jacques - February 25, 2009
Not only can it be a pain to setup everything in your life from your address book to your filing system, but moving or changing that setup can be a nightmare. Sometimes a process is so dependent on all the right conditions, that if a little thing changes, such as your computer catching fire, you have no way of being able to function. And it isn’t just limited to technology, it can be as simple as needing a change of clothes.
The solution to this is to design your life to be completely fluid. I’m almost there, and when I’m done I will be able to relocate anywhere in the US and survive various small disasters and still get things done. For example, a computer breaking down is something that will probably happen to everyone. If that happened to you right now, could you deal with it? Would you lose something precious?
Here are some concepts for how you can streamline your life to be completely portable, disaster-proof, and easy.

Slacker Method for an Effortless Valentine’s Day
Posted by Jacques - February 7, 2009
If you’re dating or married to someone, they’re probably expecting something good to happen this coming weekend. Traditionally it’s the guy who is expected to come up with those plans, so I’ll be writing from that perspective. This is a topic that is especially dear to me, as often we guys are blamed for not being able to deliver the proverbial goods in the romantic department.
If your loved one says that they don’t want anything special for Valentine’s day, don’t believe them. It’s a trick!
What they’re really expecting is a romantic evening that the male has taken great pains to plan and implement. I know my wife would say that she’s looking for something that expresses my love and our relationship, but I know that among the best Valentine’s Day we’ve had was where I had done something special and looked like I worked my butt off. As one of my good friend’s would say, perception is reality. As long as you can make her feel like you’ve done something special and hard, then you will be appreciated for it.

Slacker Method for Sounding Smart (Please Don’t Use Big Words)
Posted by Jacques - February 5, 2009
I do not consider myself to be smart. People like Tim Ferris, Warren Buffet, and Leonardo Da Vinci are the truly smart people. I’m content just appearing to be smart (relative to others).
Sounding smart is an important skill to have nowadays. While this isn’t something you can master in a day, there’s definitely a few shortcuts you can take short of actually knowing everything. Pretending to be smart, as it turns out, is a lot easier than actually being smart.
Sounding smart is useful because it means people will listen to you, you’ll get promotions, you’ll get your way, and you won’t be ridiculed. I know you’re going to roll your eyes at some of these so called “tips” but I promise you, if you can employ all of the strategies I list here, people will perceive you to be at least one standard deviation above the average intelligence (see what I did there?!). These can be used at work, or when having conversations with friends or potential business partners.

Slacker Method for Measuring Without a Ruler
Posted by Jacques - January 22, 2009
Okay so we’ve all been there, needing to measure something without a handy dandy ruler in our pocket. Not to mention that for those of us who have problems estimating size, guessing is not an option. Yeah, you thought those Christmas lights would plug in, didn’t you?
The problem is that we don’t always have the tools for the job on hand. We can’t always carry them around because they may be bulky and we’ll never know when we actually need them. The trick is to work with what you have, and with a little bit of brain power, we can make it go a long way.

Life Changing Authors Meet and Free Book Giveaway
Posted by Jacques - January 16, 2009

1/19/09 The winners have been announced.
This month, two authors that have had the greatest influence on my life met together and discussed their basic philosophies. It is a pleasure and a treat for me to be able to witness them interact with each other as I have learned so much from both of them. Earlier in January, Tim Ferris author of The Four Hour Work Week blog interviewed Leo, and then just yesterday, Leo interviewed Tim Ferris and posted the audio on his blog Zen Habits. Again, this was a treat for me, and I was excited to see them recognize each other for their great contributions. Leo for showing us how wonderful it is to live our lives simply, and Tim for how much we can accomplish if we focus and streamline.
Today, I am offering their books, The Power of Less (Hardcover) by Leo Babauta and The 4 Hour Work Week (Hardcover) by Tim Ferris. Also another author that has inspired me to do more with my money is Suze Orman. I will be giving away her book too, The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke. These books will absolutely change your life.

Slacker Method for a Successful New Year’s Resolution
Posted by Jacques - December 31, 2008The easiest method for actually accomplishing your New Year’s resolution is to make it achievable. No, that doesn’t mean we dumb it down to, “I will exercise once in 2009″ but we don’t expect everyone to, “complete an Iron Man race.” Rather, we should understand that resolutions aren’t meant to impress anyone, they serve to remind us that
each year we can continually improve ourselves. I would go with, “Exercise at least twice a week for 30 minutes.”
Something that I remembered from my school years is that in order to set a good goal, it has to be a SMART goal. Specific, Measurable, Attainable (but not too attainable), Realistic, and Time Bound. At the same time, it has to challenge you to improve in some way. Creating a goal that you can accomplish right away, or is something that you already do is quite pointless.
