Stay Warm With Little Fuss

oven So it’s been a little chilly around here lately and keeping warm is a tiresome chore. I’m too lazy to wrap myself in layers of insulation, and then have to peel it off later, and find it too cumbersome to change the thermostat. When I was younger, my parents used to make me chop wood and then light a fire. WHAT A PAIN! Here are some things I do to stay warm without as little fuss as possible.

1. Open your oven and set it to 200 degrees.
Don’t worry about your electric bill, it’s not like baking food once in a while has a serious impact on your power usage. Also, when do you bake at 200 degrees? I was able to increase the average temperature in my house by 2 degrees and the nearby area of the kitchen 5-10 degrees.

2. Keep your hands in your pockets or wrap them in a fist.
Your hands have a lot of surface area because of all the fingers and is the last place that warm blood reaches, so they will get cold at a faster rate than other parts of your body.

3. Cover extremities.
Again, your extremities lose heat faster because they can’t generate their own heat, so you’ll get more bang for the buck if you focus on covering these areas. Plus, I’d rather wear socks and gloves than carry a blanket around with me everywhere.

4. Run a PC Testing program.
If you have a computer in the room that you’re not using, simply run a long benchmarking program like 3dmark that will push your computer to its extremes. Your processor will heat up, draw more power, which will also generate more heat from the power supply, and you will feel a noticeable difference in the room’s temperature.

5. Hold your hands on the back of your head.
The trick is to keep your elbows in the air and make sure you’re not resting all the weight on the back of your head. This is uncomfortable, but it also forces more stress into your arm muscles. Doing this will increase your core body temperature by essentially burning calories.

This is the dumbest list I’ve read in a long time. BUT its slacker-AWESOMENESS is undescribable. It is perfectly lazy.

My slacker method of getting warm: I turn the thermostat up in my house and lay on the floor on or next to the vent. Damn the extra expense.

I find it hard to believe that it is less work to turn on the oven than it is to bump up your thermostat a little bit. An oven is also horribly inefficient at heating large spaces and you can’t just leave the oven open if you have kids or pets or intend to leave the house without risking a fire. If you actually have a working thermostat, the laziest thing to do is just use it as intended. If you don’t, throw on a sweater and get drunk.
