9 Ideas for Living Portable and Disaster Proof
Posted by Jacques - February 25, 2009
Not only can it be a pain to setup everything in your life from your address book to your filing system, but moving or changing that setup can be a nightmare. Sometimes a process is so dependent on all the right conditions, that if a little thing changes, such as your computer catching fire, you have no way of being able to function. And it isn’t just limited to technology, it can be as simple as needing a change of clothes.
The solution to this is to design your life to be completely fluid. I’m almost there, and when I’m done I will be able to relocate anywhere in the US and survive various small disasters and still get things done. For example, a computer breaking down is something that will probably happen to everyone. If that happened to you right now, could you deal with it? Would you lose something precious?
Here are some concepts for how you can streamline your life to be completely portable, disaster-proof, and easy.

Slacker Method for Writing Long B.S. Papers and Business Plans
Posted by Jacques - February 22, 2009
Writing can sometimes be a chore if it’s something you’re forced into doing. Whether we’re writing a business plan or an essay, we sometimes have to dress up an idea with lots of words in order to make people feel at ease with what we’re saying.
Here are a few tips for overcoming writer’s block, length, and a host of other problems slackers often face in having to provide more information than necessary.
1. Start with an outline and break out your ideas.
Sometimes we have things to say, but it’s just a matter of not knowing how much detail we need to meet the desired length of content. Intro-Body-Conclusion is a good standard. Then break down from there. For example, the body section can be broken down into your key points. The key points can be broken down into sentences, and the sentences can be elaborated upon. Using the power of exponential growth (or pyramid schemes) you’ll have a mountain of words in no time. Continue reading Slacker Method for Writing Long B.S. Papers and Business Plans…

Slacker Method for Car Maintenance

Cars are kinda cool but they’re a black hole of time and energy. For Slackers, it’s not so much keeping the car detailed and at peak performance as it is making sure the wheel doesn’t fall off. Pictured to the right is my car which hasn’t had a wash in several weeks, I’ve only cleaned the wheels. Here are some more tips to make life with your car easier.
- Top off your tires with a bike pump.
I don’t like having to drive to gas station or plugging in an air pump to inflate my tires. Keep a bike pump in the trunk for even more convenience. Continue reading Slacker Method for Car Maintenance…February 19, 2009 | In All Slacker Methods | 1 CommentAvoiding Extra Trips

Well, I did it. I finished a triathlon. I’m not going to say I did well, because I didn’t, but I completed it.I learned quite a few things.
- Wear your running biking/shorts under your wet suit or buy a pair of lycra swimming shorts and use that for the whole race.
- Bring an extra bottle of water for rinsing the sand off your feet.
- Being overweight makes you really fast downhill but really slow uphill.
- A number belt will eliminate fumbling with your numbers during transition.
- Lung capacity still seems to be more important than muscular endurance.
- Just because it’s in Florida, doesn’t mean there aren’t hills, so train with that in mind.
- Much of the run was in sand, so don’t expect the course to be completely solid ground.

So the big day is tomorrow and I have successfully not done anything significant to prepare for this competition. Again, I’m just looking to finish, and nothing more. I also want to prove that it can be done without training and without being in great shape. One thing I’m doing is making a checklist of what I need to bring. I’m also replaying in my mind the whole process and exactly how the transitions will work. This is always a good strategy when trying a new sport, try to envision yourself going through the motions so you won’t be clueless when you get out on the field.

Slacker Method for Taking Out the Trash And Saving the Environment
Posted by Jacques - February 10, 2009
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreaded taking out the garbage. From the awful smells, to dragging it out to the street. It was a nightmare. Today, things have changed. I’ve conquered the chore of trash management, and even consider myself to be an amateur sanitation engineer. My success was achieved by finding solutions to the main problems I have with the chore while serving a dual purpose of protecting the environment and saving the human race.Any good slacker will agree that trash removal does not enhance the quality of life except to prevent odors and germs unless you’re the mob, then you can find a way to profit from it. The least amount of time and hassle dealing with it the better. Here are some ideas that I’ve used to limit my trash runs to twice a month.

Posted by Jacques - February 7, 2009
If you’re dating or married to someone, they’re probably expecting something good to happen this coming weekend. Traditionally it’s the guy who is expected to come up with those plans, so I’ll be writing from that perspective. This is a topic that is especially dear to me, as often we guys are blamed for not being able to deliver the proverbial goods in the romantic department. If your loved one says that they don’t want anything special for Valentine’s day, don’t believe them. It’s a trick!
What they’re really expecting is a romantic evening that the male has taken great pains to plan and implement. I know my wife would say that she’s looking for something that expresses my love and our relationship, but I know that among the best Valentine’s Day we’ve had was where I had done something special and looked like I worked my butt off. As one of my good friend’s would say, perception is reality. As long as you can make her feel like you’ve done something special and hard, then you will be appreciated for it.

Well some of you may know that Chinese New Year’s just passed. On their astrological calendar, I would be an Ox, and this is the year of the Ox, so hopefully, this is a good year for me and for the blog.
Things are looking up but just wanted to share with you a post that features our website along with 99 other productivity blogs. Some of my favorite blogs are listed there like Zen Habits and Lifehacker. There seems to be a trend where Lifehacker and Zen Habits are mentioned, I get a mention too! Guilty by association. =)
