Slacker Method for Easy Holiday Gift Tags

Seems like every Christmas I go out and spend money on wrapping paper, bows, and the like, but I always seem to run out of gift tags. I often waste a lot of time hunting down tags or going out and buying more. However, over the years, I’ve learned that people don’t really care about the wrapping all that much or even the name tag. What matters is that you thought of them, and that you took the time to give them something you think they’d enjoy. Well, the gift matters too, but the point is, not the tags.

I was inspired by something I saw on flickr created by designer Mig Reyes. Pictured to the left, Mig was able to custom design gift tags for each of his family members with a short little quip. While less ambitious than he, I can appreciate the concept of making your own.

So, rather than getting those special self-adhesive Christmas tags, I tried cannibalizing old greeting cards but they didn’t seem to have that Holiday spirit I needed (plus I’m too lazy to cut all that thick card stock paper). After a little research, I discovered that there are a few websites out there that actually have sheets of tags that you can print out on your printer at home. Just print, cut, and tape.

If you’re more daring you could also find an image you like and paste it six times into word. The advantage is that you can also type out the names too if you have bad handwriting, but please don’t try this if you’re fairly proficient in word or it can be very frustrating and Slackers don’t like being frustrated. Either way, I won’t be spending anymore than 5 minutes on my tags this year.
