Slacker Method for a Successful New Year’s Resolution
Posted by Jacques - December 31, 2008The easiest method for actually accomplishing your New Year’s resolution is to make it achievable. No, that doesn’t mean we dumb it down to, “I will exercise once in 2009″ but we don’t expect everyone to, “complete an Iron Man race.” Rather, we should understand that resolutions aren’t meant to impress anyone, they serve to remind us that
each year we can continually improve ourselves. I would go with, “Exercise at least twice a week for 30 minutes.”
Something that I remembered from my school years is that in order to set a good goal, it has to be a SMART goal. Specific, Measurable, Attainable (but not too attainable), Realistic, and Time Bound. At the same time, it has to challenge you to improve in some way. Creating a goal that you can accomplish right away, or is something that you already do is quite pointless. Free File Storage at Zen Dump.com
Posted by Jacques - December 28, 2008Yesterday was an unusually busy day for me. It went something like this…
Wake up really late, write a little bit, pay some bills, wife drags me out of the house, we run to the bank and deposit some money, drive to Bed Bath & Beyond, stop by Starbucks, run to Barnes and Noble, visit Circuit City, then Men’s Wearhouse, ate lunch at Einstein Brothers, drove to the bike shop, drove further to Williams-Sonoma, toured Ikea (you can’t visit Ikea, you have to tour it), popped into Office Depot, had dinner at an awesome Cuban Bistro, got some goodies at a bakery, then went home and played Monopoly. Twice. Continue reading Free File Storage at Zen Dump.com…
Merry Christmas and some gifts from Zen Habits
Posted by Jacques - December 25, 2008Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays to everyone!
Times are difficult this year, and if you’ve survived Christmas without bankrupting your finances and your emotions, you are one of the lucky few. For those of you who are struggling, Leo Babauta has decided to give out his free ebook called Thriving on Less. It is especially relevant and much appreciated that he is willing to present his work at this time. His gift for us this Christmas, is to show us that debt, bling, and material possessions are dated, and that there really is life after “things”.
For those of you who don’t know, Leo is the author of Zen Habits, one of my favorite blogs on productivity, self improvement, and spirituality (in a sense). I have pre-ordered his new book called The Power of Less and highly recommend everyone check it out.

Slacker Method for Spreading the Joy Without Spreading Your Time
Posted by Jacques - December 22, 2008
I’ve been doing a lot of posts lately regarding the Holidays, but I can’t help it! The holidays bring a lot of emotions, and much of those emotions involve stress, time, and money. While we all look forward to meeting with friends and family, nobody, not even slackers, look forward to the hectic nature of the season.
One of the things I know slackers WANT to do but often can’t do, is sit down and write cards to everyone they love and care about, or maybe even give them a call. But there may be many reasons we can’t, people we haven’t spoken to a long time which may be awkward, or simply not having the time to reach out to everyone that we want to.

Slacker Method for Easy Holiday Gift Tags
Posted by Jacques - December 20, 2008
Seems like every Christmas I go out and spend money on wrapping paper, bows, and the like, but I always seem to run out of gift tags. I often waste a lot of time hunting down tags or going out and buying more. However, over the years, I’ve learned that people don’t really care about the wrapping all that much or even the name tag. What matters is that you thought of them, and that you took the time to give them something you think they’d enjoy. Well, the gift matters too, but the point is, not the tags.

Slacker Method for Christmas Gift Budgeting (revised)
Posted by Jacques - December 18, 2008Since Christmas is almost here, I thought I’d share a tip about how to budget for friends and family using an extremely simple math strategy. Often near the Holidays, we want to keep to a budget but it tends to creep upwards more often than not. Especially in these economic times, it is tougher than ever to break our budgets and give just a little bit more to loved ones. Taking an emotional problem and applying a partially objective solution definitely will ease the anxiety and decision making process when it comes down to a simple method of crunching the numbers.
Step 1: Grade
To start this, take a napkin or paper towel (slacker’s don’t use real paper) and write down the names of everyone who you plan giving a gift to. Then, give them a score between 1 and 10 of how important they are to you (If it’s 0, then why are you even bothering?).
For example, my list would look something like this:
- Wife - 10
- Mom - 9
- Best Friend - 7
- Coworker - 5

Twin Armada.com Clothing Store Relaunched
Posted by Jacques - December 14, 2008
A friend of mine and his partners have relaunched their online clothing boutique self-labeled as contemporary asian. They are extremely sharp about fashion and design, and although I am a bit biased, I really enjoy shopping for clothes at their site more than others. My friend shoots all the amazing photos you’ll see in the store, hand picks his models and inspects every product created by a slew of up and coming designers.
After months of development and with the help of the technical team at Twin Armada, the store boasts an improved and streamlined shopping experience and a gorgeous site.

Slacker Method for Auto Bailout: Let Them Fail
Posted by Jacques - December 12, 2008
This is the first tip I’ve given to the government, but here it goes. Rather than wasting millions of dollars propping up a bad company with poor management. Rather than reading all these news stories about who’s going to get how much and when the bill is going to pass. Rather than wasting hours of your day, asking the unions, kicking out the CEOs, gathering votes and writing legislation to this fact… do this. Ignore them. Forget about what car companies need and let them figure out how to survive on their own.

Slacker Method for Losing Weight by Swapping Foods
Posted by Jacques - December 10, 2008
Unfortunately, this slacker has not found a magic pill. Luckily, there is a magic formula! Calories Consumed - Calories Burned = Weight Loss/Gain. Yep, I’m sorry, that’s it, but at least it’s a simple formula. We can attack this problem one of two ways, either by lowering the consumption side or increasing the calories burned side. If we’re smart, then we’ll do a little of both without having to do any significant work.
